A1(M) Major Roadworks Junction 1 near South Mimms
00000The Project
The A1(M) in the South Mimms area carries more than 67,000 vehicles every day. The road surface, around Junction 1 (both northbound and southbound), is coming to the end of its useful life and needs to be repaired. This work is necessary to prevent it from deteriorating further and to ensure that it stays in a safe condition for many years to come. The roadside drainage will also be repaired to prevent it damaging the road.
The work will start at the beginning of February 2005 and is expected to be completed by the end of March 2005.
The work involves:
- carriageway resurfacing
- drainage replacements
- safety fencing replacement
- upgrading the street lighting
- repair of earthworks embankment
- replacement of motorway communications cables.
The work will provide a quieter, smoother and safer running surface, which will benefit both drivers and local residents.
