Traffic Management

A1(M) Major Roadworks Junction 1 near South Mimms

Traffic Management

A speed restriction of 40 miles per hour will be in place while the work is being done to ensure motorists and road workers are safe.

The work will continue for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to complete it in the shortest time with minimal inconvenience to the public.

As this section is particularly busy, existing lane capacity will be maintained throughout the daytime on both the northbound and southbound carriageway. Fewer lanes will be open overnight.

We will provide a free recovery service for broken-down vehicles. CCTV monitoring will ensure that any delays or incidents are dealt with quickly, and safety cameras will enforce the speed restriction. The hard shoulder will be used for traffic and there will be narrow lanes and a contraflow arrangement. There will also be some overnight closures of the slip roads along the A1(M) and main carriageway.

Avoiding delays

Delays are expected, especially during the morning and evening rush hour and at weekends. Motorists should allow extra time for journeys at these times.
