The Project
The A20 Swanley Bypass is constructed from reinforced concrete slabs, which required major maintenance. This 2.2-mile section (3.5 kms) was selected by the Agency for the use of a new method to make the carriageway smoother and quieter.
Incorporated into this scheme was the refurbishment of the drainage system that was also in need of repair. This package of improvements will extend the life of the road by up to ten years.
The work, which started in late June 2004, and was completed by early August 2004, involved carriageway repairs, low noise carriageway resurfacing and drainage works.
