The Project

Work to replace the lighting columns on 2.5 miles (4km) of the A47 Soke Parkway, Peterborough started in April 2005 and was completed in September 2005. The work closed one lane of the A47 on both carriageways between the A47/A1260 Thomas Cook Interchange (junction 15) and the A47 Bretton Way (junction 17).

The existing lighting columns had been in place for over 30 years and structural assessments recommended the replacement of the columns to ensure the safety of road users. Each lighting column had to be taken down and replaced.
