The Project
The construction contract for the bypass was awarded on 13 August 2004 to Birse Civils Limited. The new road was opened ahead of schedule on Wednesday, 14 December 2005.
Thorney Bypass Official Opening
The three mile long Thorney Bypass was officially opened on Wednesday, 14 December 2005 by Alistair Darling, the Secretary of State for Transport, some 3 months ahead of the contract completion date after a 16-month construction period. A commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark this occasion.
