The Project
The Highways Agency has completed the bypass of Thorney Village between the A47 west of Causeway Lodge and the A47 west of Pigeons' Off Farm.
The construction contract for the bypass was awarded on 13 August 2004 to Birse Civils Limited. The new road was opened ahead of schedule on Wednesday, 14 December 2005.
Thorney Bypass Official Opening
The three mile long Thorney Bypass was officially opened on Wednesday, 14 December 2005 by Alistair Darling, the Secretary of State for Transport, some 3 months ahead of the contract completion date after a 16-month construction period. A commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark this occasion.

Completion of Work
Although the bypass is now open there is still some minor work left to complete.
The footbridge at Station Road is open but work on the handrails and painting is still ongoing. This has taken longer than we hoped and it is now anticipated that it will be complete by the middle of June. Please note that the Footbridge is open at all times and should be used when crossing the bypass at Station Road.
Other occassional minor work may take place in the coming months but the site office has been closed.
