The Project
The Highways Agency has completed the £12m A14 Rookery Crossroads Improvement, near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.
The improvement included replacing the existing crossroads with a new two-level interchange to carry local traffic across the A14. The improvement also includes a new underpass for equestrian and cyclists, the closure of the Two Mile Spinney junction, Improvement of the Home Farm slip road and realignment of about one mile of the existing A14.
The contract to construct the work was awarded on the 18th August 2004 to Mowlem PLC and the junction was fully opened to traffic in December 2005.
Finishing works will continue alongside the A14 at the east end of the scheme at Rougham until mid to end March. This work may require occasional off peak single lane closures. Disruption will be kept to a minimum.
Official Opening
The improvement was officially opened on the 3 March 2006 by Archie Robertson of the Highways Agency by unveiling a 18th Century milestone at it's new site to mark the occasion.
