The Project

Essential maintenance and safety work took place on the A453 near Ratcliffe on Soar in Nottinghamshire, between M1 Junction 24 and Crusader Island at Clifton, Nottingham, until late November 2005. The work included weekend closures, which we tried to programme to avoid clashing with any major sporting or music events that happened in the area.

The final weekend closure took place on 13 November 2005 while essential maintenance work was carried out. The works were completed on 20 November 2005.

The improvements included replacing parapets on the bridge carrying the A453 over the railway, refurbishing this bridge and the nearby bridge carrying the A453 over the River Soar and carrying out concrete repairs to the rail bridge below road level.

Despite the narrowness of the site, the scheme was carefully designed around being able to keep two-way traffic flow most of the time.
