Frequently Asked Questions
A453 River Soar and Railway Bridges
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why are weekend closures necessary?
A: As the A453 is a single carriageway road carrying a high volume of traffic, we are delighted that we can keep two way traffic flow most of the time the works are happening. But there isn’t the room to carry out all these bridge repairs and keep vehicles moving through the works all the time. To carry out this essential work safely, as well as enabling us to get it done as quickly as is possible, the weekend complete road closures are vital.
Q: Why were these works not carried during the 2004 weekend closures?
A: Unfortunately it was not possible to do this work in last year’s weekend closures when we carried out major resurfacing work along the Clifton stretch, as the two schemes required completely different schedules. With this bridgework, we need to carry out several weeks of work between closures, hence the longer scheme duration.
