The Project
The A453 Weekend Maintenance begins on 30 July 2004. Improvements for this project include resurfacing much of the A453 through Clifton, with junction and safety improvements such as new pedestrian guard railing and new tactile paving. Elsewhere on the route, bridge inspections, bridge joint replacements, environmental work, ditch clearance, upgrading safety barriers, new white lining and other works will be carried out.
The work is to be carried out during full weekend road closures. The first one will be from 8pm Friday evening 30 July and continue through up to 6am the following Monday morning (2 August). Closures will continue for the next three weekends from Friday 8pm up to Monday 6am. There will be a break for the August bank holiday weekend, with work resuming on the weekend of Friday 3 September to Monday 6 September. Diversions will be clearly signposted via M1 Junction 24 and the A52. Residents of Clifton will be diverted via Farnborough Road.
