Option 2 sketch

Option 2

The original proposal, shown right, has been developed to produce the current proposal which is shown below. The main differences are that the proposed design speed is increased from 40mph to 60mph and the B6179 is retained on its current alignment and widened.

In Option 2

  • The existing roundabout would be replaced by two linked roundabouts.
  • The A38 would be re-aligned to the northwest of its current position.
  • The existing roundabout would be enlarged slightly and another new roundabout would be constructed on the line of the B6179 to create the dumbbell layout.
  • The A38 would be on an embankment with a bridge over the B6179 link road which would remain at ground level.

In this option the A38 is further to the northwest than in Option 1. This junction arrangement would slightly reduce the impact on the residential properties and business premises in the area. The junction cost estimate is £25.3m.
