The Project

This project involved the replacement of the old Ashchurch Station Bridge on the A46.

The new bridge is situated to the north aside where the old bridge used to exist. A new link road was constructed to connect the existing A46 to the new bridge. The existing A46 now provides local access to the school, village hall and properties. The old bridge was demolished when the new road and bridge were completed.

The majority of the properties on the southern side of the A46 are expected to experience an improvement in noise levels and air quality.

The scheme also provided a substantial benefit for pedestrians and cyclists, using the wider bridge and new facilities alongside the road together with the new local access road.

A Toucan crossing (for use by both pedestrians and cyclists) replaced the existing pedestrian crossing. Existing footpaths are being maintained and a new footpath provided from the northwest corner of the new bridge to the railway station.
