History of Project

  • 1972 - Preferred Route announced, but no detailed work undertaken
  • 1987 - Scheme added to National Roads Programme
  • 1993 - Preferred Route announced again and its line protected against development.
  • 1995 - Proposals dropped from the Roads Programme
  • 1996 - Preferred route Protection removed
  • 2001 - Scheme included in the Government's 10 Year Plan for Transport published in July 2000
  • 2001/02 - 2003 White Young Green appointed as Consulting Engineers for the Scheme to reappraise the options for the line of the bypass in the light of current highways standards, environmental conditions and public opinion.
  • 2003 - Parkman Ltd appointed as successor Consulting Engineers to White Young Green to undertake preparation of ECI tender documents, assist in the award of ECI contract, undertake and report on Public Consultation and assist with submission to the Secretary of State for Preferred Route Announcement.
  • December 2004 - Secretary for State announced that the A483 Pant to Llanymynech scheme would be progressed subject to regional priorities.
  • 2005/06 - Scheme remitted to West Midland Regional Assembly. Decision made January 2006 to place the scheme low in its priorities for the region.
  • March 2006 - HA commences a review of the scheme to investigate whether the scope and cost of scheme could be reduced while maintaining most of the benefits.
