Traffic Management

M6 J22 to J23 north and southbound Resurfacing or M6 Major Winwick M742

How will we manage traffic?

There will be no restrictions to traffic during the daytime.

Full overnight closure of the motorway is necessary to allow us to work safely in the area around Lowton Railway Bridge where working space is restricted. Diversion routes and alternative routes will be clearly signed.

At other times the north and southbound carriageways will be reduced to a single lane overnight between 9.00pm and 5.00am (weekdays) and 9.00pm and 10.30am (Saturdays and Sundays). During these times a 50mph mandatory speed limit will be in operation.

Traffic flows at this time of night are slight and long-distance traffic is being routed along other motorways to keep congestion on local roads to an absolute minimum.

What you can do to help?

The road works will affect a wide area. If you are going to a venue or event in Greater Manchester or Merseyside which is time-sensitive such as a concert or the theatre, a football match or catching a flight from Manchester International or Liverpool John Lennon Airport or you are advised to use the motorway diversion routes and allow plenty of time for your journey.

Look out and listen for press and radio announcements for ongoing and up-to-date information.

Please keep to the mandatory 50mph speed limit and take care near the roadworks both for your own safety and the contractor's safety.
