M66 Jct 1 to 3 Hybrid Major Maintenance Works

M66 JUNCTION 1 TO 3 HYBRID MAJOR MAINTENANCE WORKS

The Highways Agency has commenced road resurfacing and bridge maintenance works on the M66 between Junction 1 and 3 near Bury. Preliminary works began on 19th January 2004, and the main works will commence on the 2nd February 2004. These will continue until September 2004.

The works will consist of resurfacing, replacement of safety fencing, drainage repairs, strengthening of bridge parapets and bridge repairs. The carriageway will be resurfaced using a modern quieter surfacing material, which minimises the effect of traffic noise.

To minimise disruption and the overall length of the contract, the works will be carried out continuously throughout the week.

To provide a safe environment for the work force, and to ensure that disruption to the travelling public and local residents is kept to minimum, the works will be carried out as follows:

  • Initial hard shoulder closures, followed by contraflow arrangements.
  • Overnight lane closures.
  • Occasional overnight closures of the slip roads at junction 2. Diversions will be fully signed.
  • To facilitate bridge maintenance work, the carriageways on Walmersley Road and Bentley Lane will be restricted to one lane controlled by temporary traffic signals. In addition, Bentley Lane will be closed for two nights to enable parapet erection.
  • At Manchester Road bridge temporary traffic signals will be used during off peak hours as required.
  • Speed restrictions and safety cameras will be in place.

If you require further information please contact Atkins, who will be supervising the works on site on behalf of the Highways Agency. The Atkins site manager, Jack Dixon, can be contacted on 07739 511 646.
