Route Description

M57/M58/A5036 (M6 to Liverpool to M62)

Route description

The route consists of the M57, the M58 and the A5036 together with their terminal junctions.

The M57 commences at Junction 6 of the M62 (Tarbock junction). It runs in a generally north-westerly direction to its junction with the M58, A59, and A5036 (Switch Island junction), a distance of 15.1 km. It is mostly dual three lane standard except for a short length between Junctions 4 and 5 which is dual two lane standard.

The M58 commences at Switch Island junction. It runs in an easterly direction to Junction 26 of the M6, a distance of 18.6 km. It is mostly dual three lane standard except between Switch Island junction and Junction 1 where it is dual two lane standard.

The A5036 runs from Switch Island junction in a south-westerly direction to its junction with the A565, a distance of 5.3km. It is urban in character. It is a dual two lane carriageway over most of its length except at its eastern end where it is dual three lane standard. Between Switch Island junction and its junction with the Netherton Way (A5038) the road is fronted by industrial and commercial development. The remainder of the route between this junction and the A565 passes through an area of residential development.
