30 June 03A press announcement was made in June 2003. This explained the study and invited comments to be submitted.Note that subsequent to the press release and in answer to the Local Stakeholders requests and the announcement of the M6 widening proposals up to J19, the scope of the RMS study was increased from a 10 years review to 15 years.
18 July 03 Local Stakeholders Meeting-The meeting was held to bring up to date those local stakeholders who had previously been involved with the A556 through previous studies. A preliminary review of the scope of the RMS, together with problems and issues, and possible solutions were discussed.
5 September 03Initial Workshop-This reviewed the information collected to date to determine a preliminary draft for the Route Management Strategy to take forward to the Seminar for wider consultation.
30 September 03Seminar-The Highways Agency inviting a wide range of outside organisations, local transport, public groups, and other interested parties to contribute to the Strategy at a Seminar that was held in autumn of last year. The wider public will also have the opportunity to comment as part of the overall process.
October 2003 - March 2004In this period, a Value Management Workshop and a Transport Forum were held. These were used to:
-develop the general form of the Strategy
-identify the best ideas for future actions
-determine the form of consultation (Attendance at the workshops was limited to a small number of key stakeholders)
March 2004 - June 2004Public Consultation - Road users and local people were given the opportunity to comment on the proposed strategy, by a combination of exhibitions, publications, website, and a questionnaire. A summary of the responses has been incorporated into the Public Consultation Report that can be viewed in "Publications".
Autumn 2004Report to the Secretary of State, decision on way forward, and publish the Strategy (15-year programme) for managing the route.
