The Project

This junction using an underpass linked to roundabouts on both sides of the A1 trunk road and connecting to the A1 by way of slip roads was opened in September 2004 and was officially opened by a tree planting ceremony in Stannington village on 2nd December 2004.

The four existing central reserve crossings have been closed, and the 50mph speed limit lifted on 10th October 2004.

This scheme has met it's goals of improved safety and integration of Stannington Village's east and west areas.

One Year After Report

This Report comprises an evaluation of the scheme, focusing on traffic flow, journey time and reliability impacts and accident rates one year after scheme opening. The report also includes a re-evaluation of scheme costs and scheme economic benefit forecasts.
