The Project
Major resurfacing and bridgeworks on the M69 in Leicestershire between Junction 2 and Junction 21 of the M1 took place early 2005 to improve safety.
Resurfacing work started on Monday 17 January 2005, with the bridgeworks beginning on Friday 21 February 2005. The resurfacing works were completed within 10 weeks of the start date, and bridge works lasted 16 weeks.
The resurfacing scheme, costing £5.4m, replaced the concrete road surface with a new low noise surface which also reduces spray when raining, improving driving conditions. There was also improvements to the drainage, safety fencing and road markings.
The old surface was not removed, but was overlaid with new bituminous material - reducing the need for lengthy carriageway reconstruction.
