Traffic Management

M69 Junction 2 to 3 and M1 Junction 21 (Phase 2)

Traffic Management

In order for the work to be carried out safely, the roadworks will be carried out under contraflow on the north and southbound carriageways, with some lane closures and a 40mph speed restriction. During peak hours two lanes will be in operation in each direction.

In addition to the contraflow, two overnight closures of the northbound carriageway will be required. These are scheduled for Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th March and Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th March. When the road is closed signed diversion routes will be in place. Traffic travelling from the M6 Junction 2 will be diverted south on the M6 to the M1 (Junction 19). From there they will be diverted north on the M1 to Junction 21. Traffic travelling from Junction 1 of the M69 will be diverted via the A5 to the A4303 and the M1 (Junction 20). A local diversion route, for vehicles travelling from M69 Junction 2 will also be signed.

While the traffic management is in place for the roadworks scheme the Highways Agency will be upgrading the parapets on South Leicester Railway and Thorneyfields Farm bridges to comply with current parapet standards.

The £0.7 million bridgeworks scheme involves installing an innovative barrier system on the railway bridge, which will minimise the time taken and disruption to carry out the works. Once the parapets are replaced the existing barriers protecting the parapets and the temporary hard shoulder closures can be removed.
