The Project
Between January and March 2005 there will be a series of works along the A38 in Staffordshire/Derbyshire. These schemes will improve safety for all road users and will be carried out over a three/four month period.
The road surface over the Egginton Bridge, Derbyshire is worn out and will be replaced to improve safety for road users. Work is planned to start in mid March and will last one week to re-surface. 370m of the southbound carriageway. Additionally, the viaduct expansion joints require replacment.
To avoid disruption to road users the A38 will be open to traffic during peak hours. However, there will be some overnight road closures where diversion routes will be in operation in addition to some day and nighttime lane closures. In some locations a 40 miles per hour speed limit will be in operation.
The Highways Agency and Optima, its Managing Agent Contractor, are actively seeking to minimise disruption to both residents and road users. Road users should follow the signed local diversion routes that will operate during closures and if possible choose routes to avoid the works area.
