The Project
The Highways Agency widened the A500 at Stoke-on-Trent, between the B5045 Shelton New Road and the A50. The scheme involved the replacement of the existing roundabouts at the A5006, Stoke Road and the A5007, City Road, with underpasses.
The project also improved the Trent and Mersey Canal, the River Trent, Fowlea Brook and Whieldon Road.
Advance works started at the beginning of February 2004 with work to divert sections of the Trent and Mersey Canal prior to the permanent canal diversion.
The project is now complete.
One Year After study
This scheme has been reviewed as part of our ongoing programme of Post Opening Project Evaluation (POPE). The study compares the outturn effects of this scheme to the predicted impacts of the scheme.
