The Project

During a visit to Scarborough in March 2004 the Minister attended a meeting, at the invitation of Lawrie Quinn MP, to receive a presentation by the A64 Partnership. The Partnership consists of officials from the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Assembly, local authorities, local businesses and residents.

At the presentation the Partnership explained that they had undertaken an Economic Impact Report (EIR) in 2002/03 in order to provide justification for dualling the missing links of the A64 between York and Scarborough. The EIR had not fully tested the economics or the environmental impacts of the proposals. The Partnership asked the Minister, therefore, to agree to the Highways Agency undertaking a brief study into the economic and environmental impacts of dualling. Consultation with statutory consultees and stakeholders was also considered to be necessary.

The Minister agreed that there was a need for more detailed evaluation into full dualling of the road between York and Scarborough.

This evaluation is now complete.
