The Project
This scheme forms a part of the Highways Agency's existing strategic roads programme. The Department for Transport wishes to engage regional and local stakeholders in identifying their priorities for transport investment. With that in mind, they will be seeking views on this scheme as it is on a route of predominantly regional rather than national importance.
Subject to these regional priorities and funding, this scheme could then be progressed through the statutory processes, the next stage would be publication of draft orders.
The proposed bypass runs to the south of the village along the Blue route corridor, which was identified as one of three options shown at an exhibition in the village in November 2000.
The central section of the bypass could be built in a cutting to reduce noise and visual impact in the area. Following views received during public consultation an extension of the bypass to the west around the bends at Rillington Fields will also be investigated further.
Roundabout junctions are proposed at both ends of the bypass. Consideration will be given to locating the junction at the eastern end on Wintringham Road to reduce the impact on Scampston Park and avoid Scampston Bridge, which is a Listed Structure.
