The Project
The A63 is the main road between Hull and the national motorway network. The junction at Gibson Lane, Melton, west of Hull, was controlled by traffic signals and had a poor accident record. In the five year period to December 1999 there were almost 100 casualties including five fatalities and sixteen serious injuries. The traffic signals caused delays at peak times.
The scheme replaced the traffic signals with a new grade separated junction.
In March 2004 a contract was awarded to Alfred McAlpine to complete the detailed design and construct the scheme. The new junction opened to traffic at the beginning of October 2006. The scheme was fully completed in Spring 2007.
POPE - One Year After study
As part of our ongoing programme of Post Opening Project Evaluation (POPE) a study has been undertaken comparing the outturn effects of this scheme to the predicted impacts.
