The Project
The scheme upgraded Hedon Road into a dual carriageway, building new roundabouts and flyovers to ease congestion. Right turning and traffic signals have been eliminated to improve safety and traffic flow.
Dedicated cycle and pedestrian facilities have been provided, together with improved access to bus stops.
It is estimated that the scheme will lead to fewer road accidents over a 30-year period, preventing five deaths and nearly 1000 accidents.
Hull access is a flagship scheme highlighted by its priority in the national Targeted programme of improvements. This is reinforced by the importance of the regional economy, as Hedon road is the first point of entry for many foreign visitors to the country and also a through route for British industry and tourists travelling to the European continent.
