The Project

This is a safety upgrade at this strategically important junction. New safety barrier will be installed on verges and central reserve for protection of the columns and piers against damage in the event of a collision.

This scheme is commenced on 24 October 2005 and is scheduled for completion on 27 April 2006.

Traffic Management

Most of the works will be undertaken at night during overnight closures Sunday to Thursday inclusive, 2100 to 0530. Diversions utilizing the motorway network will be in place during this time.

There will also be some daytime working with narrow lanes and hard shoulder running. Throughout the works period a 50mph speed limit will be in place on the M4 and a 50mph limit on the M5 due to the proximity of the works to the M5 junction 16 slip roads.

Road users can expect moderate to severe delays at peak times as this location experiences heavy traffic volumes.
