The Project
The Highways Agency has carried out major improvements to M4 junctions 8-9. The scheme was designed to tackle congestion by providing extra capacity for vehicles using the junction.
The £3 million scheme to improve the M4 Junction 8-9 slip roads, south of Maidenhead started on 30th October 2005 and finished in April 2006.
The work comprised of widening the existing carriageway on both the westbound and eastbound exit slip roads by adding an extra lane. This allowed more vehicles to travel through the junction and has therefore improved journey times.
Traffic signs, traffic signals, and drainage has also been improved to suit the new layout, as well as upgrading of the street lighting for the whole junction.
