M3 Junction 3 to 4 Major Maintenance Scheme Drainage Replacement
Frequently Asked Questions
Traffic Management will consist of the following:
- Isolated & overnight lane closures on the M3 from 5 September to 26 September 2005
- Full contra-flow from 26 September to 16 December 2005
- No slip road closures are planned for these works
- No daytime reduction in number of lanes are planned (usual three lanes in each direction to be maintained)
- There will be a 50 mph speed limit with Safety Cameras operated by Surrey Camera Partnership
- There will be a physical barrier separating opposing traffic
- Vehicle recovery service is 24 hours per day from 26th Sept until completion
- HGV to straddle lane 1 and 2
What is being carried out
- Essential drainage reconstruction and upgrade
- Resurfacing of the eastbound hardshoulder where damaged by works
- Renewal of road markings and studs
- Vegetation/ tree clearance locally to allow safety operation of machines
- Vegetation clearance on westbound carriageway to allow hardshoulder to be used as running lane
Why is this work being carried out
- To prevent further subsidence of the verge and hardshoulder
- To avoid localised flooding
- To improve safety on the highway network
Where
- Works are only being carried out on the Eastbound verge
- Traffic management from 1 mile south of J4 to the Maultway Bridge (between J3 and J4)
- Works will take place between Watchetts Pond and the Maultway
- Noise levels have been agreed with Surrey Heath Council
