Q: Why is this work being done?
A: The road is now nearing the end of its serviceable life and needs to be repaired now; this will remove the need for frequent temporary repairs.
Q: What will be done?
A: The existing A31 carriageway between at Corfe Mullen between the Roundhouse Roundabout (A350) and the Blandford Road junction (B3074) at St.Hubert's Church, is to be partially reconstructed and strengthened to provide a new road surface, improved drainage and to minimise future maintenance requirements.
Q: When will construction start and how long will it take?
A: The work is due to start in September and is expected to take 8 weeks.
Q: Will the road be closed?
A: To enable the work to be carried out safely, the A31 will be closed to through traffic between the A350 Roundhouse Roundabout and A349 Merley Roundabout. The main closures will be at night between the hours of 8:00pm and 6:00am Monday to Thursday. In addition a maximum of four weekend closures will be required between 9:00pm Friday and 6:00pm Sunday. These will be advertised in advance and local residents will be informed by letter.
Q: Will local access be maintained during the work?
A: During road closures access will be maintained for local residents and emergency services. Access through the work, however, will be restricted.
Q: Will there be night time working?
Road closures are required for the safety of roadworkers and the travelling public; the construction process will be closely monitored to ensure that noise levels are kept to a minimum within the standards agreed with the local authority environmental health officer.
Q: How will the work benefit local residents?
A: The improved surface will reduce traffic noise. Flooding will be reduced by the improved highway drainage.
Q: How will the work benefit the travelling public?
A: The travelling public will benefit from a better road surface and fewer delays due to maintenance and flooding.
Q: What about noise and dust?
A: Noise and dust will be monitored and controlled. Noise limits will be agreed with the local environmental health officer.
