The Project

Road users near Canterbury in Kent are advised to allow extra time for their journeys while improvement work on the Ashford to Margate railway bridge, is carried out.

The work starts on Saturday 3 September and is due to be completed in three weeks.

The work involves upgrading the existing safety barriers over the railway to meet improved standards. The new barriers are designed to offer greater impact resistance and will provide increased safety for road users. Drivers will see the Highways Agency workforce removing the existing crash barriers overnight between 7.00pm - 5.00am, with all other work taking place between 7.30am - 6.00pm. For the first two weeks, daytime work will be Monday to Friday, and afterwards, Monday to Sunday, 7.30am-6.00pm.

Traffic Management

For the safety of drivers and the workforce, lane one of the A2 near Canterbury will be closed in both directions during the work, with a 50mph speed limit in place. The A2 will be fully closed on first and last night of the works between 7.30pm and 05.00am. A fully signed diversion route via the A2050, Canterbury Ring Road back to the next junction of the A2, will be displayed during the closure.
