The Project
Esso Petroleum Co Ltd in conjunction with NG Transco carried out major maintenance to their pipeline crossings of the A30 at Ashford between Clockhouse Roundabout and B378 Stanwell Rd from May to July 2005.
In order to ensure safety to road users and the work force, and to minimise traffic disruption to the local area, full consultation was made with relevant local authorities, namely the Highways Agency and the Police. From these discussions, a comprehensive Traffic Management Plan was devised. Single lane traffic flow was maintained in each direction, however vehicle crossovers opposite Orchard Way and Short Lane/Desford Way were closed for the duration of the works. It was also necessary to temporarily close the A30 in each direction on a couple of occasions during the works. These closures were carried out at night and only lasted a few hours. During these periods, traffic was diverted as follows:
Westbound: A30 junction with A312 Parkway (turn right) to A4 Bath Road (turn left) to A3044 Stanwell Moor Road (turn left) to A30 Crooked Billet, Staines (Diversion End).
Eastbound: as above but in reverse.
