The Project

The carriageway of the A435 between the junction of the A435 with Orchard Place and the B4497 junction at Washford Farmis was reaching the end of its design life and the surface texture and ride quality suffered as a consequence.

Works were completed on the 16th December 2005.  At the same time we upgraded signs and road markings, placed anti-skid surfacing on the bends near the Boot Inn and put up vehicle activated warning signs on each approach to the bends in the vicinity of the Boot Inn. Variable Message Signals (VMS) are to be added in mid January 2006.

Traffic Management

  • To complete the works the road was closed for northbound traffic just to the north of the B4497 junction (except for access to the Abbeyfields Drive).
  • Traffic going north was diverted off the A435 at the B4497 junction, along Claybrok Drive, onto the A4189 to rejoin the A435 at the A4189/A435 'Dog Island' Roundabout.
  • Traffic going south from the A4189/A435 'Dog Island' was able to continue being routed along the A435 as normal.

We used this method of managing the traffic to complete the work quickly, reduce the queuing and delays that can be caused by temporary traffic signals and to provide a safe working environment for the workforce.

Due to the works access to premises was only available for southbound traffic.

A diversion route was well signed and access was maintained at all times except by prior arrangement.

We apologise for any delays you may have experienced whilst we carried out this essential work and thank you for your patience when travelling through the works or on the diversion route.
