The Project

Improvement works to the approach barriers of Chester Road Bridge are now complete and the road fully open in both directions.

The £340 000 scheme started on Sunday 18th September, and finished as planned on Sunday 27th November.
The bridge is near Chester Road Sports & Social Club, at the junction of Chester Road North and Lyndholm Road approximately 1/4 mile South of the A449/A456 junction. It carries the A449 over the Kidderminster to Stourbridge Junction Railway.

The work carried out extended the existing brick parapet, at all four corners of the bridge, to provide protection for the road and rail users.

Temporary traffic lights were in operation for 10 weeks, with the road closed completely on 8 Sundays and 1 Thursday night/Friday morning. We needed 3 more road closures than was originally advertised, as the programme had slipped due to some 3rd party permissions taking longer to obtain than anticipated. The closures enabled the work to finish on programme and were fully advertised in the local press and radio, with diversion routes being clearly signed.

We would like to thank the local residents and the travelling public for their help and co-operation whilst these essential safety works took place.
