The Project

Planning permission was granted in December 1999 for the construction of Kingsway Business Park, on land northwest of Junction 21 on the M62 motorway at Milnrow, northeast of Rochdale.

In association with this development, road improvements were carried out in and around Junction 21. The improvements comprised of:

  • A new eastbound exit off slip
  • Construction of two new roundabouts on the existing slip roads
  • Construction of a new dual carriageway link to connect the A640 Elizabethan Way to the new roundabouts
  • Construction of a new Dig Gate Lane accommodation bridge
  • Closure and diversion of footpath 398 along the southern boundary of the motorway to the new Dig Gate Lane bridge
  • Improved merge facilities for the westbound entry slip road.

Work on the £5 million improvements to Junction 21, which will make it easier for traffic to access the £350 million business park, commenced in October 2005 and were completed in 2007.
