The Project

The Highways Agency carried out essential work to improve safety on the A5 near Lutterworth in Leicestershire. This work is part of an ongoing programme of improvements along the A5.

We resurfaced an 800-metre stretch of the A5 at Claybrooke Magna, near Lutterworth, in both directions.

This resurfacing work was essential to ensure that this section of the A5 is kept to the highest safety standards. The new surface is also quieter and smoother.

How long did it take?

The work was started on Monday 5th December 2005 and was completed Friday 16th December 2005.

How did this affect the traffic?

For the safety of drivers and road workers, both carriageways of the A5 were closed between the B4455 Fosse Way junction at Claybrooke Magna and the A4303 Cross in Hand Island junction.

The road was closed overnight throughout the works from 2000 - 0630, when traffic flow was at a minimum. Diversion routes were signed and all traffic, including HGVs, was diverted via the B4555 and Coal Pitt Lane.

How did this affect local residents?

Access for local residents was maintained during the works and the A5 was opened to traffic as normal during the daytime.
