Frequently Asked Questions
A5 Cross in Hand to Gibbet Hill Islands Improvements Works
Frequently Asked Questions
What's being done?
The Highways Agency carried out major maintenance work to the A5 between the Cross in Hand and Gibbet Hill Islands near Lutterworth on the Leicestershire / Warwickshire border.
The work involved replacing a substantial amount of the existing road structure that had come to the end of its life and if left would have become unsafe. We also upgraded road signs and repaired and replaced drainage, kerbing, road markings and road studs.
How long will it take?
The work started on the 23rd October 2005 and was completed on 27th November 2005. Signs giving advance notification of the start of the works were displayed on all major approaches to the works area.
How will this affect the traffic?
The A5 from Cross in Hand to Gibbet Hill was closed to through traffic for the works period. Unfortunately, it was not possible to carry the work out safely without fully closing the road. This meant we could complete the work more quickly as well as more safely. Most of the work took place during daytime.
Road users were advised to proceed with caution near the works area and along the diversion route paying full attention to all temporary signs.
Is there an alternative route?
Traffic was diverted via the A4303 and A426 at Lutterworth during the works.
How will this affect local residents?
Access was maintained to all properties along the closed section of the A5 and arrangements were made for farmers to use their fields. The contractor will keep in close contact with local residents on access needs.
