The Project
The Corley Service Area Footbridge over the M6 motorway is situated north of Coventry, approximately 3.75km west of junction 3. The work, which will begin on 19 September 2005 and is expected to be completed by mid January 2006, involves strengthening the existing three supports to the footbridge and will provide increased protection to withstand possible impact from HGV's.
Traffic Management
The work will take place over a 24 hour day combining both day and night time working. A 50 mph speed restriction will be in force throughout the duration of the works. At peak periods, traffic will be maintained in three lanes; lane closures will only occur during off peak nightime working. The scheme will be carried out in two phases:-
- During the Verge Pier works, all three normal lanes will be running, however, the hardshoulder will be closed. For night time working from 10.00pm - 6.00am, lane 1 will be closed for the safety of roadworkers - traffic will be running in lanes 2 & 3 only.
- Whilst the Central Reserve Pier works take place, traffic will use the hardshoulder and lanes 1 & 2 - lane 3 will be closed. For night time working from 10.00pm - 6.00am, lane 2 will be closed for the safety of roadworkers - traffic will be running in two lanes, the hardshoulder and lane 1 only.
