The Project
Infrastructure works are now complete on a £3.9 million contract to improve the motorway communication system on the M6 between Junctions 3 and 4.
Installation of overhead signal gantries took place during March and April under a series of overnight motorway closures so as to minimise disruption to the travelling public.
Electronic Message Signs installed on the overhead gantries have now been commissioned and all signals are currently operational.
The new signals will be operated from the Highways Agency's West Midlands Regional Control Centre. Operators in the control centre will allocate Traffic Officers and other emergency services to incidents, manage and monitor traffic and control electronic signs on the roads.
MIDAS commissioning has been successfully completed and is now operational.
Further information on Regional Control Centres and Electronic Message Signs is available in the Knowledge Centre section of the web site.
