The Project
The M1 J37 to J39 is part of a wider package designed to reduce congestion and improve safety and journey time reliability on both the M1 and M62. It seeks to have an increased capacity and able to carry more traffic on the M1 corridor in each direction.
There are 9 projects in the M1/M62 widening/improvement package, which will result in increased capacity of the M1 between Junctions 30 and 42, and the M62 between junctions 25 and 28. These schemes are the response to Department for Transport recommendations in the South and West Yorkshire Multi Modal study (SWYMMS) for increased capacity on the M1 and M62.
