The Project
The £28m A46 Newark to Lincoln Improvement scheme has upgraded the existing single carriageway road which carried 20,000 vehicles per day (including 19% of heavy goods vehicles), to a new dual carriageway road capable of carrying the forecast 25,000 vehicles per day in 2018.
The new road is approximately 8 miles (13km) long and follows the line of the original A46 between the A1133 Winthorpe and the A1434 Hykeham Roundabouts, with the exception of a 1.5 mile (2.5km) bypass for Brough village. The scheme also provides several new junctions where the various side roads meet or cross the A46 and two new over bridges at Brough Lane and Haddington Lane.
