The Project

The Highways Agency installed traffic signals at two junctions on the A449 at Station Drive, Four Ashes and School Lane, Coven this Autumn. Works started late November 2005 and were completed late March 2006.

Although the main body of the works is now complete, there will be some anti-skid surfacing works taking place towards the end of April 2006.

This scheme aimed to improve safety at both junctions where there has been a large number of accidents in the last 5 years. The new traffic signals assist vehicles turning in and out of side roads and include a right turn phase. This makes traffic movements safer.

There is now also a fully marked pedestrian crossing at each junction with a pedestrian stage incorporated within the signals. This now provides much safer access to the school and the bus stops located near these junctions too.
