Work to strengthen the parapets and improve the safety of two bridges on the M69 in South Leicestershire began on the evening of Sunday 12 June and was complete by Sunday 2 October.
At the first site, near Stoney Stanton, the bridge carrying the M69 over the Hinckley to Leicester Railway line was made safer by replacing the existing parapets with new stronger steel barriers.
At the second bridge, which carries the M69 over an access track and footpath near Thorneyfields Farm, the existing parapet on the southbound carriageway were replaced, whilst on the northbound carriageway the existing parapet were refurbished.
The new steel barriers on South Leicester Railway Bridge now provide greater protection to the railway line below from vehicle impacts. On Thorneyfield Farm Accommodation Bridge the new southbound parapet provide greater protection to the access road below. Both provide improved safety for road users.
