Progress Since Last Newsletter

The Highways Agency have held a series of public open day exhibitions at Blunsdon and Commonhead to show the full details before publication of draft Orders. They were well attended and comments have been considered and taken on board where possible.

EventDate
Publication of draft Orders and Environmental Statements (subject to Department for Transport approval)Late Autumn 2004

Next Stage

The Highways Agency intends to keep local residents and other interested parties involved in progress and to deal with comments as the schemes are developed.

There has been a delay in opening the Highways Agency's Local Information Centre at Blunsdon. We are hoping it will open soon when it will be open for 1 or 2 days a week to allow anyone with an interest to drop in. Opening hours will extend into the early evening to allow people to call in after work. The days and times will be publicised once the Centre is open.

The next key stage will be for the Highways Agency to publish details of the two schemes of draft Orders and Environmental Statements. The Highways Agency are intending to publish these documents soon. There will be plenty of opportunity for people to see the plans again at further exhibitions, the dates and times of which will be publicised locally and in the local press.

Looking Ahead

The next key event after publishing draft Orders would be a Public Inquiry. This would only be required if there are objections to the scheme which could not satisfactorily be resolved. It would take place next year Autumn 2005. The Agency's aim would be to avoid a Public Inquiry if possible by continuing discussions with the affected landowners, key stakeholders and Statutory Bodies to resolve outstanding concerns.
