What is the M40 / A40 Route Management Strategy?
Transport and the way we travel is one of the greatest challenges that we facetoday. We all have a part to play and this draft Route Management Strategy(RMS) is a way for you to have your say in how we maintain and manage theM40/A40.
The M40/A40 RMS is one of a series of studies that are being undertaken for theentire trunk road network, identifying problems and helping us deliver a highquality service.
This draft RMS has been prepared after consideration of route functions,objectives and issues and the needs of people who drive along, cross or livealongside the route. It has been prepared following a detailed study, includingdiscussions with key local and regional interests. The Highways Agency is nowconsulting the public on this initial strategy, which will be finalised taking intoaccount the responses received.
This leaflet focuses on problems and possible solutions. The full draft RMSdocument sets out current and possible future use functions and suggestedoutcomes for the route.
Route Description
The M40/A40 covered in this Route Management Strategy runs for approximately87 miles (140km) from the boundary between Greater London andBuckinghamshire to junction 3A of the M42 south of Birmingham. UK HighwaysM40 Ltd are responsible for the operation of the M40 motorway betweenJunctions 1 and 15 on behalf of the Highways Agency. The operation of theremainder of the route is the direct responsibility of the Highways Agency.
What Happens Next?
The public consultation on the initial Route Management Strategy closes on2nd July 2004. All comments received will be considered and incorporated whereappropriate into the final Route Management Strategy. On completion of thisstage, the M40/A40 Route Management Strategy will be adopted, published andimplemented via a Route Management Plan.
