A23 handcross to warninglid newsletters no. 2 - may 2004

Introduction

Introduction

Existing A23 on Handcross Hill

This newsletter gives an update on the proposals to widen the A23 between Handcross and Warninglid in West Sussex.

The Minister for Transport announced the inclusion of the scheme into the Targeted Programme of Improvements on 18 May 2004 with the preferred route comprising a 3-lane dual carriageway with a relocated and improved Slaugham Junction.

Background

Newsletter No. 1, issued in May 2003, gave details of proposals to widen the A23 from the existing 2 lanes to a 3-lane dual carriageway. We hope that you found the first edition informative and that it gave you a useful insight into the scheme. Following feedback on the initial proposals, which were presented at the public exhibition held in May 2003, the scheme options have been further developed. In particular these included the provision of:

Public Exhibition at Parish Hall
  • A revised Slaugham Junction
  • Pedestrian/ cyclist crossing at Anne's Wood Stream
  • Slip roads and service roads
