Introduction

The Secretary of State for Transport has announced a scheme forwidening the M25 motorway from Junction 12 (the Thorpe Interchange, where the M25 connectsto the M3), to Junction 15 (the Thorney Interchange, where the M25 connects to the M4).The length of this section is approximately 11 km (7 miles). Through much of its lengththe motorway is on embankment. This leaflet describes the Scheme and summarises, innon-technical language, the Environmental Statement (ES). The ES presents the findings ofthe assessment of the environmental effects of the Scheme and describes the measuresproposed to reduce its impact. It is issued in accordance with EC Directive 85/337/EEC asapplied by Section 105A of the Highways Act 1980.
