Minister officially starts construction of A47 Thorney Bypass

Transport Minister David Jamieson visited the site of the A47 Thorney Bypass on Tuesday 5 October to mark the official start of work.

During his visit, the Minister joined the site team as work got under way on excavation of new drainage channels at the site.

The Minister also visited the public exhibition about the bypass scheme and how it will be built. There he met local school children and saw pictures drawn by them on the theme of road safety.

The exhibition was open to the public from 2pm to 8pm and around 240 vistors came to find out more about the construction of the new road.

On the site, work is underway on filling redundant ditches and cutting new ones in preparation for main embankment construction and fill is already being placed at the eastern end of the bypass to form the embankment for a short connecting road.
