Progress Report - September 2004
Since the end of August, the contractor has been establishing the site offices and compound and carrying out initial works including setting out, fencing and clearing the site and constructing site access.
The first major operation will be constructing an embankment at the eastern end of the scheme, for which material will be supplied from Pode Hole quarry to the west of the village. This will mean it will be necessary to haul material through the village for the first few weeks.
The bulk of the earthworks material will be supplied from a new borrowpit to be opened on the north side of the A47 near Pode Hole quarry from where it can be transported to the site without using public roads, thus reducing to a minimum the amount of disruption caused by the works.
Travellers can expect to see work going on in the fields adjacent to the A47 but there will be little effect on the existing road for some time. Off peak traffic lights will be in operation intermittently as required for safety reasons. These should not cause more than slight delays.
