June Progress Report

Work is now nearing completion on the new Link Road, which will connect the west side of Thorney to the Bypass. As a temporary measure we need to use the link road to divert the A47 traffic away from the line of the Bypass.

Potential Severe Traffic Delays - weekend of 2nd/3rd July 2005

On the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of July we will be constructing the tie-ins for the Link Road and this will require 2 sets of traffic lights working throughout the 48 hour weekend period. Severe traffic delays are likely and we therefore request that you allow additional time for your journeys or better still find an alternative route.

Elsewhere on the contract work is progressing at full speed. We have recently completed the piling work for Station Road Footbridge. Next week we will commence construction of the concrete bases, which connect the piles to the steel footbridge.

We have also commenced laying the continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) for the main bypass road. This will involve placing over ½ million meters of reinforcing bars and nearly 20,000 m3 of high strength concrete. The concrete will be batched in Pode Hole quarry and bought to site using the plant crossing recently installed on the A47. This avoids the vehicles needing to travel along the road. Paving will take approximately 10 weeks. The concrete will then be covered by a thin layer of blacktop to provide a smooth, quiet ride.
