A14 Rookery Crossroads - February 05 Update
Changes in traffic management:
Changes in traffic management for the A14 Rookery Crossroads safety improvement scheme at Bury St Edmunds, come into effect from Tuesday 15 February 2005.
The current provision of two lanes westbound plus one lane eastbound during the morning peak (06:00hrs - 10:00hrs) and two lanes eastbound plus one lane westbound in the evening peak (16:00hrs - 19:00hrs) will remain through much of the 1.5miles (2.5 km) scheme. But from the 15 February, in the morning peak only, a contraflow will be in effect at Rookery Crossroads and one lane of westbound traffic will be travelling on the eastbound carriageway for 0.9 miles (1.5 km).
This new traffic management is essential to enable improvement works in the area of the new bridge at Rookery Crossroads to proceed. For the safety of road users and workers on site, the 40mph speed limit, enforced with safety cameras, will remain in place throughout the contraflow and the rest of the scheme.
Mike Hall, Highways Agency project leader, said
"This new traffic management will allow us to get on with this important improvement scheme. I'd ask drivers to be patient through the traffic management and to allow extra time for their journeys."
"The result of this work will be a better, safer A14 at Rookery Crossroads."The access to Chapmans Close from the A14 westbound will be temporarily closed, for safety reasons. Road users accessing Rougham Industrial Estate can follow the signed diversion route via the U6321 Sow Lane.
These arrangements will remain in place until the next phase of traffic management is brought into place. This is expected to be during April 2005.
Throughout the rest of the scheme on the A14, narrowed lanes and the 40mph speed limit are still in operation. During off peak hours, when traffic flows are lightest, the road will continue to be reduced to one lane. There will continue to be occasional overnight and weekend lane closures.
